Shruthi Vishwanath has trained for over 20 years in Carnatic classical music, choral music, and abhangs. She brings together her training in these diverse genres through classically interpreted renditions of Kabir and abhangs. Shruthi collaborates with several musicians to bring rich musical interpretations of bhakti poetry. She loves the work that the NSPA does because she believes that no-frills performances on the street bring out the best in a singer and is the most honest feedback that one can get!

“I reached Vashi station tired and worn out from the days work, to see a crowd formed around a man, went to investigate, and I saw a man performing a song which sounded like Sufi music to me. His voice echoed through the granite corridors of the station and the merry strums of his guitar filled the air with melancholy. I stood there hearing his song about finding God in ones own belief, reminded me of Kabir ke Dohe which i had read when i was a kid.”
