There’s no real joie de vivre without an occasional dose of dark humor. And although some might turn their noses up in scorn, while others might gasp in horror, there are some of us who delight in these inappropriate cracks. One such person who doesn’t only find these jokes hilarious, but spends a large part of his time designing such cracks is polish artist Kajetan Obarski, who also goes by the name Kiszkiloszki. He transforms famous classical paintings into rib-tickling gifs by infusing them with a humorous twist. His keen eye spares the work of no painter, no matter how famous. Even the works of yesteryear greats like Michelangelo, Van Gogh and Da Vinci have been subjected to his visual witticisms. Here is some of his most entertaining work. Van Gogh’s self-portrait depicts him with a missing ear. He is rumored to have cut of his ear after hearing of his brother’s engagement. This Gif imagines the master painter’s reaction on receiving the following present.
Here he uses the concept of the masked lovers, originally painted by celebrated surrealist Rene Magritte, to imagine a world of masked people in which these two odd lovers don’t startle or stand out but fit comfortably into!
This Gif features three classical paintings that scroll up like in an Instagram feed. Predictably, the semi-nude male gets an instant like while Jacques-Louis’s ‘Death of Socrates’ goes unnoticed.
This Gifs creatively combines four paintings that re-interpret one of the most horrifying stories of domestic violence.
This gif pokes fun at Francisco Goya’s ‘Saturn Devouring His Son’ and presents the painting in a humorous light.
