The NSPA's monsoon playlist continues - for there's no raining on our parade!

Hello there!
There is this delightful moment in the 1960 classic Mughal-e-Azam, after the iconic number "Teri Mehfil Mein Kismat Azmakar" which shows two courtesans musically battle it out for the affections and favour of Prince Salim, when the rajkumar offers them their reward. He presents Bahar - played by Nigar Sultana - with a red rose in bloom, and Anarkali - played by Madhubala - with thorns. To this, the latter makes the tender, poignant reply - "Je naseeb. Kaanton ko murjhane ka khauf nahin" (I am fortunate. Thorns have no fear of ever withering). The NSPA does what it does - convert ordinary public spaces into thriving performance venues - because hamein aapki mehfil mein kismat azmana bada achchha lagta hai! We hope to bump into you at railway stations, libraries, maybe even a gym - and if we're really lucky, be at the receiving end of an offering of thorns!

We will be hosting performances there every Friday night from 9 - 10 pm. Playing for us tonight are a

Uttarakhandi lok geet artist Suresh Kala and dholak player Avinash Lamba strike again - this time with a whole new set of songs for an interactive workshop with the 12 year olds at Colaba Municipal School, a new addition to our Art Literacy mission. It was so endearing to hear the engaging students stumble through and conquer lyrics in the local languages and dialects of the north - ending with a joyous (and

noisy!) reprise of "Bedu Paako Baarmaasa", having adopted the Uttarakhandi andaaz!
