Top Reasons to Travel

Wednesday, August 29th, 2018

Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.

Whether you have the desperate urge to or not, you cannot discount the benefits that travel has on our well-being. Heart, body and soul, all benefit, while also giving you a break that (whether you admit or not) you really need. But if you’re still not convinced, or if you need help convincing someone else on why you definitely must be travelling, here’s a list of reasons why travelling should be on your schedule on a regular basis

1. Become more confident

Travelling will definitely throw you out of your comfort zone. And this is definitely a great thing. Putting you in places you’ve never been, situations you’ve probably never experienced, with people you’ve never met, you are bound to have an experience to remember for a long time. And all of this has the added benefit of making you more confident. You see, when you challenge yourself and push yourself to try new things, you automatically show yourself that you can do it, and then, if you do this regularly enough, it becomes part of who you are.

2. Become more adaptable

With travel, you are bound to sometimes land up in situations that you were not prepared for, no matter how perfectly you plan things. You learn to adjust, accommodate, and test your own limits while travelling. And this has real time applications and benefits in your regular life, regardless of what job you have, what your relationship status is, or even what kind of life you lead.

3. Take a break

Stress is now just a normal part of all our lives. But if you don’t give yourself a break every now and then, then finding that your energy is fizzling out is quite common. Taking a small break from the regular routine is a must, if for nothing else than to give your body and soul a chance to recharge. You’ll go back to your regular routine with a more positive outlook, and a bounce in your step.

4. Broaden your horizons

Meeting people from outside of your regular circle, interacting with people from different backgrounds, different cultures, even those who speak different languages, is a great way to broaden your mind, and also is a different, and really real-world, form of education. It also helps you combat your own notions (and often, misconceptions) about those very people and cultures.

5. Create memories

It has to be said, that the longer you live your life in a particular way, the less likely you become to experience new things, and hence, the fewer memories you retain of those times, since, quite sincerely, all days blend into one another due to similarity. Travelling jars you out of this funk, and with new experiences come new memories, and more stories to tell family and friends.

Apart from all of these reasons, there are also great benefits for your health and immunity, developing better communication skills, and making new friends. But whatever the reasons you choose, traveling is a definite must. And who says you need to splurge on a foreign tour every single time? Sometimes you just need to pack a backpack, grab a bus ticket to a random place, and be off. Sometimes you just need to go out and discover your own city. It all counts.

Exploring the Beauty of Nature with Ruskin Bond

Thursday, May 19th, 2016

Many of us fell in love with Ruskin Bond’s writing way back in school, perhaps when we read his ‘Cherry Tree.’ His description of picturesque landscapes makes you want to spend time in a forest and his subjects, simple people leading regular lives, are refreshing and intriguing. Ruskin Bond has made many a child fall in love with nature, and go on to become avid travellers. If you haven’t read his books yet, fret not, for now is a good time to start. His heart-warming stories are perfect for people of all ages. ‘The Room on the Roof,’  ‘The Blue Umbrella,’  ‘Our Trees still grow in Dehra,’ ‘The Night Train to Deoli and other stories,’ are some of his best books. Pick up one of these today to give him the perfect birthday gift! Yup, it’s the octogenarian’s 82 birthday today (19th May) so Happy Birthday Mr. Bond!

Now mull over these wonderful quotes.

If you too love being in the presence of nature, these quotes of his will fill your heart with joy.

“…for every time I see the sky I’m aware of belonging to the universe than to just one corner of the earth.”

“And when all the wars are done, a butterfly will still be beautiful.”

“Live close to nature and you’ll never feel lonely. Don’t drive those sparrows out of your veranda; they won’t hack into your computer.”

“The adventure is not in getting somewhere, it’s the on-the-way experience. It is not the expected; it’s the surprise.”

“A story never really ends and happiness is something that comes and goes. It is as rare as a rainbow.”

“By day, it does seem that our troubles won’t cease, but at night, late at night, the world is at peace.”

“I have come to believe that the best kind of walk, or journey, is the one in which you have no particular destination when you set out.”

“It is always the same with mountains. Once you have lived with them for any length of time, you belong to them. There is no escape.”

“Happiness is as elusive as a butterfly, and you must never pursue it. If you stay very still, it may come and settle on your hand. But only briefly. Savour those moments, for they will not come in your way very often.”

“It wouldn’t be much fun living on a planet where grass could not grow.”
